Bioethics and its intersections

Revista da Faculdade de Direito de Conselheiro Lafaiete, ISSN 1679-8139, v. 3, p. 201-214, Conselheiro Lafaiete, 2007.

The article, published in partnership with the Portuguese psychiatrist and researcher Zagalo José Antonio Cardoso, from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, University of Coimbra, brings to the field of medical genetics the ethical discussions that permeate the most varied fields of human experience. Based on the concept of ethics, it criticizes the myth of human perfection, while warning for the risks that medical research brings and for the need to continue the pursuit. Refusing to believe in an authority that censors the acceptable ethical standards, and invoking the «principle of responsibility» through our decisions, it discusses the need to respect the ethical plurality when the consequences for the decisions relate only to those who take them.
